Big Noble, which counts Interpol’s Daniel Kessler among its members, make music that sounds like the intro to an epic song, but then somebody keeps hitting the back button on your CD player right before the first verse kicks in. It’s a sound that lends itself especially well to the videos that the band has been steadily releasing since First Light came out earlier this year.

I could stretch and make the claim that this is vaguely music related, since Interpol’s Paul Banks is one of the guests on this episode of Scott Aukerman’s Comedy Bang Bang podcast, but the real reason I’m posting it is Horatio Sanz, of SNL fame. He makes me laugh out loud to myself at least a half dozen times over the course of his appearance. He shows up (as Aaron Neville) around the 36 minute mark, though a “sound proofer” who sounds suspiciously like Sanz makes a brief appearance around 22 minutes in, too.
Death from Above 1979 yesterday, and Interpol today. I wouldn’t hold it against you if you thought you’d traveled back to the turn of the century, but here we are in 2014 and both bands seem to be firing on all cylinders. Between “Ancient Ways” and the previously previewed “All the Rage Back Home”, Interpol actually sounds like Interpol again. El Pintor is out through Matador Records on September 9th.
