Always leave ’em wanting more, right? Minor Victories’ “Film One” does just that, featuring two all-too-brief excerpts from the band’s upcoming debut. Let’s pretend for a second that a project featuring members of Slowdive, Mogwai, and Editors had any chance of being anything less than stellar… These three minutes should set your mind at ease if you had any reservations about the quality of work emerging from the supergroup.

Dum Dum Girls’ re-imagining of Lee Hazlewood’s “Think I’m Coming Down” was always the moody, epic outlier on Only in Dreams, an album of otherwise shambolic 60’s girl-group pop. That moodiness lends itself quite well to a live setting, as you’ll see when the band knocks it out of the park in the video above.

Welcome to the second edition of the Interstellar Radio Shower Week in Review. Here in we pick the favorite song posted by the other (ie. Jim picks his favorite Matt song, and Matt his favorite Jim song) and we say why it’s our fav. Also, quick summaries of our other long posts for the week. Basically, herein we navel gaze.

Matt Picks a JimSong – Week Ending 7/25/2015

Is it cheating if I pick the Shipping News post from Monday? It’s not really fair to other bands to have to compete with that. Just in case, I’ll officially give my spot to Infinity Girl. Jim pretty much nailed it with the Velocity Girl comparison. Never a bad influence to have, though I do feel obligated to point out that the latter of those two had actual girls in the band… Anyways, if you liked the IG tune that Jim shared, it would seem like the perfect time to check out this older post of another of their songs, due out on their forthcoming Harm LP.




Jim Picks a Matt Song – Week Ending 7/25/2015

I’m, of course, tempted to pick Yo La Tengo because I love them so much and their new song is so great. But my heart is fickle anyhow and as is usual, Matt had a great selection of music this week. The White Reaper and Protomartyr songs are just great. But i’m going to go with the Zig Zags this week. It really rocks and will fit your Saturday night party mood.

LP Highlight of the Week – The Ethical Debating Society’s New Sense LP

Also from the UK, this album from the Ethical Debating Society is great. Quite a bit rock and riot grrrl. If you like it loud and catchy, you’ll like this. You can read more about it in our highlight post.
