All posts for the month June, 2015

For every band that can pull off the American Football/American Analog Set type of glistening guitar pop, there are thousands, THOUSANDS, that make an absolute mess of it. I think Beach Moon/Peach Moon do the sound all sorts of justice, though, and I bet you’d agree.

Since I can only assume you ran out and got your hands on Girls Names’ “Zero Triptych” single after I posted about it a few months ago, it’s only fair I tell you about their follow up. “Reticence” starts off like an air raid siren, then settles into a Smiths/New Order groove. It’s the first single off of the band’s Arms Around A Vision LP, out 10/2 through Tough Love.

This song brings the ethereal pretty. This new lp is out on 10″ if that interests you and your soul. Bouquet btw is one of my favorite words.

If you’ve been listening to the show with any regularity for the past few months, you’re probably aware of my newfound obsession with drone-psychers Flying Saucer Attack. How convenient, then, that David Pearce just announced the first FSA in fifteen years will be coming out on Drag City and Domino Records on July 17th.

This new song from Afghan Whigs is like old dinosaur jr. meets new wave band and makes a baby. Maybe that’s how they sound these days. For some reason the Afghan Whigs existence is blurry to me.

You know the drill by now: If Courtney Barnett does something remotely interesting, it’s probably gonna wind up on the blog.
BTW, if you’ve never checked La Blogotheque before, I bet you could get lost over there for a few days.
